At Franzen you can get cool furnishing objects, in the luxury boutiques international fashion. For many Düsseldorfers, the market at Carlsplatz is the first port of call for fresh fruit and vegetables and the vibrant culinary heart of the city. The aisles are lined with top gastronomy and some of Düsseldorf’s best delicatessen stands. Our tip: First try delicatessen at Fladi, then Pure Pastry’s fantastic tartlets and macarons, and finally enjoy the unique market atmosphere for a glass of German wine at Concept Riesling. 10 pm – Off to the old town!

The classic for Düsseldorfers as well as tourists: Have a drink in the old town. Even if the so-called longest bar in the world used to be a bit nicer, Düsseldorf’s pub and brewery culture is not to be missed. Ratinger Straße is still the nicest address. The Kürzer brewery is young and hip, the Uerige is a cult brewery where tradition is alive and well. Our tip for late hours: Go for a salmiaki schnapps in the scraggly Kreuzherrenecke.
